(Broad Street, Bath)

WW1 Memorial

St Michael Broad Street memorial

No details can be found of the conception or dedication of this memorial tablet, which is in the west aisle of the interior of St Michael's Church in Broad Street (the church is unusual in being on a north-south alignment).

This church is now called St Michael & St Paul (also known as St Michael Without), following the adoption of the dedication of St Paul when Holy Trinity moved into the old St Paul's Church building in Chapel Row. The original Holy Trinity Church on James Street West was bombed and destroyed in 1942.

The  inscription reads:

In honoured memory of the following brave men who, belonging to this parish,
laid down their lives in the Great War 1914-1918.
  • ROBERT J. B. HEARD
  • HENRY PARKHOUSE
  • GILBERT PARKHOUSE
  • WILLIAM DUTCH
  • JOHN HARDING
  • CYRIL CLACK
  • ALFRED NEWTON
  • STANLEY T. PRATT
  • HAROLD HAMILTON
  • FRANCIS BUSH
  • REGINALD MAGGS
  • HENRY SYDENHAM
  • FREDERICK SMITH
  • LOUIS HILLIER
  • JACK BROOKS
  • RALPH EDMUNDS

This tablet is erected by their friends and by members of St Michael's Church
"That their glory may endure for ever"
